Although theater has been about almost nothing but crises and catastrophes since its inception, we struggle to find the right narratives for the climate catastrophe.
How can we narrate the dramatic changes we are facing in a way that doesn't scare and paralyze us from the outset? What does the climate crisis mean for cultural administrations and possible new funding principles? How do cultural institutions need to change in order to operate within planetary boundaries? And is it even the role of art to get involved in the fight against the climate crisis?
It is clear that our society must become completely climate-neutral, preferably by 2035. No sector, including culture, can fail to meet this benchmark.
So there is a lot to do: let's talk about new narratives, the freedom of art, business ecology challenges and exciting artistic perspectives.
In her keynote speech, Nicola Bramkamp, artistic director of SAVE THE WORLD, will talk about how to make art in a good mood despite all these issues.
Before the keynote speech, visual artist and founder of the project space kunst [ ] klima Barbara Karsch-Chaïeb will open the evening with a workshop on "Land Art" : During the workshop, soil from the Kulturinsel will be finely sieved and - with a natural binder - processed into paint. The soil from the Kulturinsel will be supplemented with a red soil that can also be found in Stuttgart. Other earth and rock pigments will also be introduced. The self-made color is painted on small postcard-sized formats and can then be taken home.

About "Zukunft:Kultur"
The "Zukunft:Kultur" discussion series is dedicated to current social and cultural policy issues. At a time when rapid change has become the norm, it creates a space for in-depth discussion and analysis twice a year. The focus is on challenges and topics that will shape the cultural landscape in the future. In addition, concepts that are in the air but are often only vaguely understood will be discussed.
